Flood Insurance Is Its Own Policy
Most standard homeowners policies exclude flood from rising outside water. That protection normally comes from an NFIP or private flood policy, so confirm with your agent which one you carry. Either way, the adjuster will want proof of what was damaged before it left the house.
The contractor's photo log, moisture readings and a room-by-room list of discarded items all help your claim move. Ask for those records in writing at the end of the job. If no adjuster has come out yet, check with your carrier about starting cleanup, because weeks of wet walls only grow the damage.
Dispatcher tip: Snap a picture of the waterline on the wall and save a small square of carpet and pad before anything is hauled away. Adjusters ask for both constantly.
